(Indianapolis, IN, May, 2012) Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU) announced Tuesday, May 1st, they will be the 2012 presenting sponsor for the Indianapolis Public Library Summer Reading Program, “Gear Up For Good”.  The program is free and open to the public and is offered at Central Library, 22 branch libraries and 140 youth-serving agencies via bookmobile service, June 4-July 28, 2012. “Gear Up For Good” is an 8 week program which encourages children and their caregivers to spend the summer reading by awarding points for each book finished. 

Participants trade their points for reading incentives ranging from paperback books to passes to local attractions.  Children are also invited to choose from a list of school supply items for themselves or share with other youth and give their school supply item to Indy BackPack Attack. 

“IMCU is delighted to partner with the Indianapolis Public Library and serve as the Presenting Sponsor for the Summer Reading Program”, stated Ron Collier, CEO for IMCU.  “The Summer Reading Program is a great way to encourage children to continue to read and learn over the summer months which will help them to advance in school.  As an additional incentive for the children participating, they are able to read to earn points and purchase school supplies for underprivileged students, providing them the opportunity to give back to kids in their communities through Indy BackPack Attack.”  

 IMCU will host four free“Gear-Up” Celebrations at the following Indianapolis Public Library locations:  Thursday, May 31, 2012:  Lawrence Branch, 10 am to Noon, Southport Branch, 2 pm to 4 pm, Saturday, June 2, 2012:  Wayne Branch, 10 am to Noon, Pike Branch, 2 pm to 4 pm, Monday June 4, 2012:  Nora Branch, 10 am to Noon, Haughville Branch, 2 pm to 4 pm and Saturday, June 9, 2012:  Warren Branch, 10 am to Noon, Irvington Branch, 2 pm to 4 pm.  During the events children who register for the Summer Reading Program will receive a prize.  Games, activities and snacks will also be included!
